Our Housing & Sustainability Strategy
Creating long-term stability so youth can heal, grow, and thrive.

At Magdalena’s Daughters, we believe healing and safety begin with stability. Our housing and sustainability strategy is designed to ensure that the youth we serve are not disrupted by short-term leases, funding uncertainty, or facility instability. By partnering with mission-aligned housing and infrastructure entities, we are able to focus on what matters most: care, connection, and long-term outcomes for youth.

Why Stable Housing Is Essential for Youth Healing
For foster youth and survivors of trafficking, frequent moves and unstable placements can disrupt healing, education, and trust-building. Stable residential environments allow youth to establish routines, build relationships with consistent caregivers, and feel a sense of belonging. Housing stability also supports staff retention and program continuity, which are critical to trauma-responsive care.
Our approach prioritizes long-term housing solutions that support safety, dignity, and growth so youth can focus on their futures rather than uncertainty.
A Sustainable Approach to Housing
Rather than relying solely on short-term leases or fluctuating government funding to secure residential facilities, Magdalena’s Daughters partners with a dedicated housing and infrastructure organization to support long-term sustainability. This approach allows us to reduce disruptions, plan for the future, and invest more resources directly into youth supports such as education, enrichment, and transition planning.

Our Housing Partner: RAISE Roots
RAISE Roots is a community-based housing initiative operated through RAISE the Village LLC, a mission-aligned real estate organization. RAISE Roots exists to acquire, develop, and steward residential housing that nonprofit organizations like Magdalena’s Daughters can use to operate youth programs.
RAISE Roots does not provide youth services, does not contract with counties, and does not influence care decisions. Its role is limited to housing and infrastructure, allowing Magdalena’s Daughters to remain focused entirely on services, healing, and youth outcomes.
This partnership strengthens our ability to provide consistent, high-quality care while reducing reliance on unstable housing arrangements.

How This Strategy Benefits Youth
Through this housing and sustainability strategy, youth benefit from:
-
Fewer placement disruptions
-
Greater consistency in care and relationships
-
Safer, purpose-designed residential environments
-
Increased access to scholarships, tutoring, and educational supports
-
Expanded enrichment, workforce readiness, and life-skills programming
-
Stronger transition planning for youth aging out of care
Stable housing allows Magdalena’s Daughters to direct more flexible resources toward meeting the individualized needs of youth.

Preparing Youth for the Future
In addition to housing stability, this strategy creates opportunities for youth to learn about financial empowerment. Through age-appropriate education offered by Magdalena’s Daughters, young people are introduced to concepts such as saving, investing, and long-term planning. Youth do not participate in any investment activities, but they gain knowledge and confidence that supports future independence and economic stability.

Clear Roles, Clear Boundaries
Magdalena’s Daughters remains solely responsible for all youth services, staffing, programming, and county contracts. Housing and investment activities are managed separately through RAISE the Village LLC.
This separation protects youth, ensures regulatory clarity, and maintains the integrity of our mission.
